Meet the Mentors: WordPress Vancouver!

On Saturday, October 20, 2012, the Vancouver Chapter of Ladies Learning Code will host an Intro to WordPress workshop.

Lead by Vanessa Chu (@vanessa_chu) and supported by seven wonderful mentors, we will embark on a day long journey of understanding blogs, themes and how to develop websites in WordPress.

Thank you to our third time venue host, The Launch Academy, who donated the space and helped us with the community outreach.

And above all, thank you to our mentors who volunteered their time and knowledge to make this happen. We couldn’t offer these workshops without you!

I’m passionate about WordPress and its community. In support of the growing WP community in Vancouver, I have been a co-organizer for the Vancouver WordPress Meetup Group for over 2 years now, and also an organizer for WordCamp: Developers and WordCamp Vancouver 2012.
Working on startups, creating something new, developing ideas, it’s exciting.

What are you passionate about?

I love to learn. I will happily spend my weekends picking up new technologies, concepts, or just trawling Wikipedia. I try to learn something from everything I do, even if it’s just “never do that again.”

Why did you get involved with Ladies Learning Code workshop?

Computers are awesome, and I love teaching people about them. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about people being turned off of computers, math, or science due to one lousy teacher, and I’m hoping to have an opportunity to correct that.

What are you passionate about?

I love working for good causes. Some of our largest clients are non-profits & businesses that work in education & mental health.

Why did you get involved with Ladies Learning Code workshop?

My friend Angelina Fabbro pointed me here, and I think it’s a great idea to encourage women to program or become interested in web development. I fell into working with php and html/css/js completely by accident, and could certainly have used something more structured when I was trying to learn!
